    Before the war Great Britain impressed America Sailors claiming them to be their own. This and the United State's economic problems from staying neutral in the Britain and France war are the reasons the US declared war.
  • Battle of Detroit

    Battle of Detroit
    The Battle of Detroit took place on Fort Detroit. British & Indian Forces were commanded by General Isaac Brock and Chief Tecumseh. American Forces were commanded by General William Hull. It was a british victory, leaving the Americans in a horrible state. The Americans lost an entire army, and stopped their plan to invade Canada.

    USS Constitution vs British Ship Guerriere
    Both ships met off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. The Constitution fired at The Guerriere. The British fired back at the Americans. The US won this Battle because of The Constitutions ironed sides. This battle showed the British that the US were willing to fight.
  • Battle of Queenston Heights

    Battle of Queenston Heights
    The Battle of Queenston Heights took place on October 13, 1812 at Fort George. The Americans were led by Major General Stephen van Rensselaer and had 6,000 men. The British were led by Major General Isaac Brock and Major General Rgoer Hale Sheaffe and had 1,300 men. In the middle of the fighting, there was a truce.
  • The Battle of Lake Erie

    The United States goal in this battle was to get rid of British control in Lake Erie. In this battle the US and Britain both had a high amount of casualities. Finally after over three hours, the British surrendered making the US the victor.
  • Battle of Thames

    Battle of Thames
    General William Henry Harrison met the British by the Thames River in Canada. Harrison ordered the US army to fire directly at the British. The British stopped fighting but the US and their leader Tecumseh continued to fight. Tecumseh was killed before the Indian forces stopped fighting. With him dead, it weakened the Indian-British alliance near The Great Lakes. The US won the battle and it broke the British power on the Northwest frontier, it also secured the US border with Canada.
  • Battle of Horseshoe Bend

    General Andrew Jackson led his soldiers to fight the main Creek base. Days after the battle Red Eagle went to Jackson's camp and surrendered. The US victory forced the Creek to give up millions of acres.
  • Burning of The White House

    Burning of The White House
    The British attacked the US capital. President Madison and his cabinet fleed DC. The British set fire to the White House and other government buildings.
  • Attack on Fort McHenry

    After burning the White House Great Britain attacked Fort McHenry for 25 hours. The Americans refused to surrender and the British stopped fighting.
  • The Treaty of Ghent

    After months of trying to come to an agreement the Treaty of Ghent was signed in Belgium. Diplomats didn't find any solutions to the problems with impressment and trade embargoes.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    5,300 British soldiers attacked General Andrew Jackson and his force of 4,500. As soon the British reached the US, the US fired at the British. The British suffered more than 2,000 casualities and the Americans only had 70, making the Americans the victor of the battle.
