The Ending of WWI
The Treaty of Sevres was created because of the ending of WWI. Germany, Austria-Hungary and Turkey were beat by the forces of Britian, France, and the United States. This helped the allies write the Treaty and this way they were able to leave out Russia and keep the fallen Ottoman Empire from having anything to benefit them. -
Treaty of Sevres is signed
The Treaty of Sevres was a diplomatic contract that gave indepence to the Kurds. This was signed right after World War I ended, when the Ottoman Empire collapses.
It took 15 months for the Treaty to be created. Great Britain, Italy and France signed it for the Allies of WW1. Britain wanted control of Mosul and Istanbul, the Italians wanted Anatolia, and France wanted control over Syria and Lebanon. This event was extremely harsh for Turkey. Their lands were being divided up by foreign powers. -
Nationalist Army under Ismet Pasha defeats Greek Army
The Turks and the Greeks went to war in Anatolia and the nationalists or the Turks had great victories.Twice Ismet Pasha defeated the Greek army which made it hard for the Greeks to advance into the interior of Anatolia.The turkish forces then beat the Greeks in a 20 day battle. Both France and Italy backed away from Anatolia by October 1921. -
Treaty of Lausanne is signed
Turkey is recognized as an independent nation, and the Treaty of Lausanne replaces the Treaty of Sèvres.Turkey is now no longer obligated to grant Kurdish independence.
