Cause of the Toleration Act
Protestants began moving to Maryland. Which at the time was full of primarily Christians. Religious conflicts arose between the two groups. This was the cause fro the Toleration Act. -
Toleration Act was passed
It was a law passed in 1649 to provide religious tolerance between Christians and Protestants. The law was passed by Lord Baltimore. It was the first law supporting religious tolerance. -
Colony seized
The colony was seized in 1652 by the Protestants. Once the were seized they started changing rules and lead to the Toleration Act being repealed. -
The First Repealing
The Toleration Act was repealed the first time in 1654. It was repealed under the power of William Claiborne. He was a fan of the Anglican Church. -
Toleration Act is Reinstated
In 1661 the act was reinstated. This happened when Protestants were no longer in power. When the Calverts were in charge of Maryland again. -
Protestants in Power Again
Puritan Protestants overthrew Caverts. With the Catholic king and Calverts no longer in power the Protestants got to the thrown. Once they were in power they once again started changing rules leading to another repeal. -
Toleration Act Permanently Repealed
In 1692 The Toleration Act was permanently repealed. This happened after the Glorious Revolution and the Protestant Revolution.
