First Textile Establishment
Simeon Lord established a mill in Sydney and in 1816 he entered into an agreement with the Governer to mill, dye and press from the Female Factory at Parramatta. -
Another Textile Factory
The 'finest and coarsest' clothes were manufactured in Blackwattle Bay, Sydney. -
Mills
There were now seven woollen mills in New South Wales and by 1841 most of the colony was dressed in tweeds made at Parramatta. -
Production of Cloth
23500 yards of wollen cloth were being produced every year. -
Waverly Woollen Mill
The Waverly Woollen Mill at Distillery Creek, near Launceston was established and won a prize of $1000, from the Tazmanian government for the first woollen goods manufactured from locally produced goods.
