Huitzilopochtli told the Aztec people to migrate south and told them to look for an eagle perching on a cactus. when they found that cactus with the eagle on it, there is where they should build their new city. -

Tenochtitlan established
They arrived in the Valley of Mexico, a wide plain with fertile land, plentiful water, and a mild climate. But there was already people there living in a city made of stone. The only land that was free was a swampy island at one end of a broad lake. There they saw the eagle sitting on a cactus. They called their new city Tenochtitlan. -
