German Colonization
The Germans colonize Rwanda. They capitalize on the social caste system that created the Tutsis and the Hutus. This is where the hate begins. The Germans notice that the Tutsis had shown more European like characteristics than the Hutus. They favored the Tutsis. -

German Occupation
The Germans controlled Rwanda, keeping the Tutsis in power. This angered the Hutus. Nobody tried to overthrow the Germans and their way of thinking. This will be one of the many mistakes that lead to the genocide. If somebody had tried to break the social boundaries, maybe the genocide wouldn't have happend. -
The Belgians Take Rwanda
After WW1, the Belgians gained control over Rwanda. To make matters worse, they required every citizen to obtain papers. These papers told everyone which group you belonged to. This angered both sides. The Belgians kept the Tutsis in charge. The tension grows. -

Belgian Occupation
The Belgian Occupatio of Rwanda seemed to capitalize on the rif between the Tutsis and the Hutus, They did nothing but promote the violence. -

Tutsis Flee The Violence
The violence was too much for most Tutsis. Many chose to flee into the surrounding countries. In the end, this would save the remaining Tutsis in Rwanda thirty years later. -

Hutus In Control
After a major overthrow, the Hutus wrestle the power from the Tutsis. In this time NO Tutsis are allowed to participate in governement affairs. Their needs are ignored. People go hungary. -
A Co-Government
In the midst of the civil war, the Hutu president who had replaced the one who was murdered, allowed the first Tutsi politicians into the governement. Tensions get higher. -

Civil War
The Rwandans overthrew their Belgian rulers. The first Hutu president was assassinated in Octomer of 1993, this sparked a civil war betweeen the Tutsi and the Hutu. -
The Genocide Begins
While the Hutu president was about to land in the Rwandan capital city of Kigali, someone shot a surface to air missile at the plane. The president was killed, along with everybody on the plane. -

GENOCIDE
After the assassination, the Hutus quickly took the government and blamed the assassintation on the Tutsis. There is no proof as to who actually killed the President but the Hutus were outraged. Multiple radio stations called for the execution of all of the Tutsis. The slaughter begins. -
The End
A Tutsi army from Ugandi marches into Rwanda to save their people. In the aftermath, about 1 million people are killed. Anyone who was a Tutsi was murdered in cold blood because of a piece of paper. The Tutsi army calmed things down and the tension dissapated.
