The Road to Revolution

  • The Royal Proclamation

    The Royal Proclamation
The Royal Proclamation was about creating a new constructed structure for the newly acquired territories in North America. This was issued by King George III. In my opinion this event was a big reason why the American Revolution came to be. For starters, this event caused the colonies to unite and become concerned. No where in this proclamation did it address the concerns for the colonies. Since the colonies planned to expand their western boundaries, this caused tension among the colonies.
  • The Stamp Act Controversy

    The Stamp Act Controversy
The Stamp Act imposed and brought a direct tax on the British colonies in America. It required colonists to pay a tax, which was represented by stamps. This act caused money to be taken from Americans without their permission. This violated the principle of taxation without representation. With this happening, the colonists would fight and riot against the Stamp Act. This forced resignations from nearly all men from Britian to be sent to enforce it.
  • The Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act was an act that stated that Parliament could make laws binding the American colonies in all cases whatsoever. People saw the Declaratory Act as a way of including the authority to tax. With the Stamp Act being reapealed, the Declaratory Act caused very little concern for the colonies. The statement of the Declaratory Act didn't convince the colonists to be content with the British. This led to the American Revolution being foreshadowed.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts
The Townshend acts were acts that were made to help pay the expenses that had to do with governing in the American colonies. Eventually, parliament passed the Townshend acts. This began taxes on glass, lead, paint, and tea. The response from the colonies was not good. It caused the colonies to yet again choose to discourage the purchase of British imports. The reason this led to the american revolution was because Britain sent troops to collect taxes, which raised tensions between the two.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a big reason why the American Revolution came to be. The Boston Massacre was a street fight. The fight was between the patriot mob and a squad of British soldiers. Snowballs, sticks, and stones would be thrown back and fourth. The Boston Massacre was the consequence of the Townshend Acts. In total five colonists were killed in the fit. This caused a campaign by speech-writers to rouse the anger of the citizenry. Little by little we're seeing the anger build.
  • The Tea Act and Tea Parties

The Tea Act and Tea Parties
The Tea Act in my opinion is the most important event to why the American Revolution came to be. The Tea Act was where Bostonians took action and strormed the ships. They threw 342 chests of tea into the water. They were disguised as Native Americans, so they couldn't be identified. The reason this happened was because American colonists were angry at Britain for imposing taxation without representation. The act showed that American colonists could unite and would no longer tolerate taxation.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts consisted of the Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government, Administration of Justice Act, and the Quebec Act. All of them set new regulations for the government in the colonies. The message throughout the colonies was clear. The violence that happened in Massachusetts could happen anywhere. The British had taken this past its limits. This led to an intercolonial conference. Because of the circumstances of the intolerable acts the first Continental Congress was convened.
