The British Acts

  • The Sugar Act

    The British laid a direct tax called the Sugar Act, anything with sugar in it the colonists would have to pay more for it.
  • Quartering Act

    If there was not enough room for the soldiers then the people would have to pay for the houses and barns they would live in.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp act was passed so the British could get money off the colonists getting stamps. Any paper had to be stamped.
  • The Townshend Act

    Charles Townshend thought that no one could argue that the British Government had the right to tax goods imported to the colonies.
  • The Tea Act

    The British taxed the tea because tea was very popular with high demand so the British would get a lot of taxed money in return.
  • Boston Port Act

    The King realized that the British were losing control of the 13 colonies so they passed the act to keep them in check. This act had them pay taxes for merchandise that was shipped over seas.
  • MA Government Act and the Administration of Justice Act

    Britain was losing control of the 13 colonies so they decided to pass this act to keep them in check and to punish Massachusetts.That if anyone has charges for murder or any other offense in the Massachusetts Bay, they can be tried in their colonies or in great Britain.
  • Quebec Act

    The act gave Quebec more land and the right to keep their catholic faith. All such territories, islands and countries which have since the tenth of February which have been made part of the government are here by annexed and made part of the province of Quebec.
