    The Postclassical Era

    Although the Postclassical Era was filled with Islam as a constant, with the Qur'an and the Five Pillars, the spread of Islam caused drastic changes to Islam thta furthered it's teachings and increased the amount of followers that it had.

    Hijira

    Muhammad, alond with his followers move from their city to another, called Medina. This move causes a change to the Islamic religion, as it is now seen from a political standpoint. The event is significant because with Islam's new rank, it provides new opportunites for spread and for people to want to follow.

    Qur'an

    The Qur'an is a record of the Angel Gabriels reveleations to Muhammad. The Qur'an was written down to be kept constant over the years. The Qur'an was followed and taught to a vast number of people, who believed in its teachings. This is significant because over the years, the teachings were kept the same, and the number of people who believed in it increased, without a single edit to it's meaning.

    Five Pillars

    The five pillars of faith are mentioned in detail in the Qur'an, including things you must do daily, like prayer. Along with the Qur'an, these pillars of faith were kept constant over the years, and taught alongside the Qur'an.

    Spread to Nigeria

    Nigeria served as a trading center between northern and central regions of Africa. So when Islam spread through Africa and through Nigeria, it's teachings where also spread north and centrally, causing more and more people to have knowledge of it.

    The First Crusade

    Crusaders under the command of Pope Urban II captured Jerusalem. After taking over, the crusaders established Christian Kingdoms where Christianity was taught. This is a massive change for the Islamic world, as they lose their 'holy land' and a new religion takes over.

    Spread to Southeast Asia

    Trade in Southeastern Asia between Malaysians and Muslims causes the Malaysians to learn about Islam. This causes change because once they learned Islam, they could spread their knowledge throughout Asia and the world could start to follow Islamic beliefs.

    The Third Crusade

    King Richards attempt to recapture Jerusalem. The Islamic forces led by Saladin, however, cause the king's attempt to fail. This shows an attempt for change, but continuity overpowers because nothing has changed in Jersusalem, because the Muslims remain in control of the territory.

    Mongols

    Prior to the 1257 capture of Baghdad, the Mongolian invasion of the Arab-Islamic Empire causes great devastation. Their invasion causes a stall of alliance and unity between Islamic states, and hit the economy hard. This is a change because the Mongols cause Islam to have a downfall, and it will be hard to recover from.

    End of the First Crusade

    Muslims defeat the European Crusaders, thus regaining control and power over the 'holy land' of Jerusalem. This is a major change because power shifts back over to another group of people, and Christianity is lost while Islam is brought back.
  • Vladimir I

    Vladimir converted his kingdom into Orthodox Christinaity. This was a change because Christianity was completely different from Islam, and this religion ultimately challenged the strength that Islam had around the world.
