Conspiracy of Queretaro
In February 29 of 1808 Napoleon invaded Spain and places his brother named Joseph in the throne even though they were not a royal family. The bonaparte family was having trouble with King Ferdinand because they both wanted the power, while the conspirators were already gathering to rebel against “New Spain”. -
Initiation
September 13 authorities searched Epigmenio Gonzalez house in Queretaro where they managed to find arms and ammunition and ordered his arrest. When Hidalgo and Allende heard the news of the arrest they decided to start the Independence at once. -
Grito de Dolores & Independence
September 16th was the date that the Independence started. Hidalgo rang the church bells at the little church in Dolores to officially start the rebellion. -
First succesfull battle
Shortly before noon on September 28 Hidalgo began to approach Guanajuato, Antonio de Riaño was the Intendant of Guanajuato and he was willing to fight even though he knew he was outnumbered. Hidalgo gathered rebels in a mine including El pilipa who helped lead the defeat of the Spaniards in Guanajuato. -
Battle of Monte De Las Cruces
The battle of Mexico City took place on October 30 at Monte de las Cruces, where Hidalgo proved that their numbered army could beat the small but well equipped and armed army of Spaniards. The Spaniards were forced to retreat. -
Battle of Calderón Bridge
In january 1811 the Spaniard troops from caught up with the rebels. Though Hidalgo and Allende had more troops the Royalist General Felix Calleja didn't want back off and he conducted his operations successfully. One of the spaniards shot a rebel ammunition army and caused an explosion that killed many rebels which forced the rebels to back off. -
Hidalgo's death
Hidalgo was charged guilty of being a traitor and they handed him to the secular arm for execution. Until July 31 Hidalgo was decapitated and his head was hanged to a pole. -
Battle of Temalaca
The battle of Temalaca took place in Puebla where Jose Maria Morelos led the army of the rebels. In the battle Morelos their leader was captured by the Spaniards and executed. -
Plan De Iguala
Consisted in 23 different articles.
These 23 articles included:
That Mexico should be organized as a constitutional monarchy
That the Roman Catholic Church would be a monopoly on the religion of the country
Criollos and Peninsulares would be treated equal
The army of the Three Guarantees would be led by Iturbide in order to maintain the three promises. -
End Of Independence
On September 27 after 11 years the wars of the Independence come to an end.
