  • The Mexican American War

    An armed conflict between the United States of America and the United Mexican States. It followed in the wake of the 1845 United States annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered part of its territory. This marked the first United States armed conflict chiefly fought on foreign soil.

    A boarder skirmish also the Rio Grande started the fighting. It was followed by a series of United States victories. This particular War came to an end on February 3, 1848
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Congressman David Wilmot first introduced the proviso in the United States House of Representatives on August 8, 1846 as a Ryder on a two million dollar appropriatios bill intended for the final negotiations to resolve the Mexican American War.

    This piece of legislation proposed an American law to ban slavery in any territory acquired from Mexico in the Mexican War.
