The life of a child

  • My birthday

    My birthday
Today, I was born in Ghana, West Africa.
  • My 4th birthday

    My 4th birthday
Like many children born in Ghana, I was sold into slavery when I was four. My parents sold me to a fisherman for about $20.
  • My first job

    My first job
As a young male slave, my job is to remove the water as it comes into the canoe.
  • Freedom?

    Freedom?
I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones. An organization found my mom and brought me back to her. Maybe there is something wrong with me. She just sold me back to the same man for another $20.
  • Promotion time

    Promotion time
Since I am older now, I have been given more responsibility on the water. Many days I navigate the boat and help pull in the fish.
  • My lucky day

    My lucky day
While we were fishing today the net got caught on some branches hidden under the water. I had to jump in to the lake to untangle the nets. I guess no one cares that there are alligators and electric eels swimming around me. At least I can swim. My friend had to do this a few days ago and he could not swim.
  • The cycle continues

    The cycle continues
Alas, life in Ghana is all I have ever known. As a grown man, I am now the fisherman and I am preparing to purchase my first child to be my slave.
