The steam engine enabled factories to move from remote areas to larger cities. It was a large source of energy for many things. On top of that, it sparked lots of new inventions as well.

    Invention of the Spinning Jenny
    James Hargreaves is the inventor if the spinning Jenny. The Spinning Jenny helped to spin cotton into thread, which could then be used to create clothing. This invention sped up the process of making clothes, since a much quicker and more efficient machine was doing the work, instead of people. Spinning Jenny

    Cotton and Cloth:Cotton and Cloth</a>Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin which made the separation of cotton seeds. Then the South increased it by having Francis C. Lowell manufacturer cloth by combining the spinning and weaving processes together. It was also a way for the Southern planters to make the growing of cotton profitable. Which then led to a new development of textile throughout New England. However, Elias Howe created the sewing machine and since then clothes have been created in factories instead of homes.

    Gas Lighting
    Gas Lighting:The first gas lighting was established in London by William Murdoch, an employee of Boulton and Watt. It mainly included coal which then cause the gas lighting to help in making the iron gauze (a lamp having glass surround it to protect the fire from being blown out). Therefore, the iron gauze and gas lighting helped the pioneers see during the night time and help them from going to places. In addition, it also expanded the mining industry providing coal and powering the Industrial Revolution.

    John MacAdam had the idea of creating roads in the 1830’s, using similar methods in which roads are built today. This invention allowed goods and people to be transported more efficiently, which helped the progress of the Industrial Revolution. No longer did people have to travel on rough, gravel roads.     Samuel F.B. Morse:The telegraph was a major invention, as it allowed easier communication between two distant locations. Before the telegraph, people had to communicate through verbal or written letters, which was not the most efficient way of communication between far places.Moreover, it was first created between Washington D.C and Baltimore, Maryland and on 24 May 1844, he sent an message to Vail in Baltimore saying “What hath God wrought!”

    Phonograph
    Phonograph:Thomas Edison first invented the tin foil phonograph in Menlo Park. However, while working to improve the telegraph he realized that once he plays the tape of it at a high speed it would come out as words. Which lead him to test a telephone message by attaching a needle to it and heard “Mary has a little lamb”. Which then became an important usage during the Industrial Revolution because it was one of the ways to send out messages.

    Incandescant Light Bulb:In 1879, Thomas Edison didn’t invent the lightbulb but he improved the small carbonized filament of it, and vacuum inside the bulb -which made a long-lasting source of light with the use of lower current electricity.Therefore, his eventual achievement of the light bulb contained all of the elements to make a light bulb practical, safe, and economical for the people during the Industrial Revolution.
