James Hargreaves invented a machine that takes cloth and, using 8 spindles, weaves it to make fabric. This machine did the work of 8 people, and made the producing of cloth much more efficient. -
Factory Systems
Samuel Slater created this idea so that goods and materials could be mass produced. This helped better America’s economy and helped us become more self-sufficient. -
The Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney invented this machine to remove cotton from its seeds, an extremely tedious task if done by hand. This made the cotton industry explode; cotton became cheaper and was much easier to produce. -
Interchangable Parts
Eli Whitney created these parts to make the production of muskets simpler and more efficent. It became easier to asemble these weapons, and production rose. -
Steamboats
Robert Fulton created this boat powered by steam to transport goods and passengers down rivers. This was critical in the Industiral Revolution because it made transporting items much more efficent. -
National Roads
The Secretary of Treasury, farmers, and traders supported the creation of a national road. It was created to provide means of transportation for goods being delievered west. These roads helped draw the US together and helped better our economy. -
Lowell Mills
Francis Lowell created a workplace used to mass produce textiles quickly. This served as a base of industrialization for other factories and mills that were being created in the US. It was alos one of the first factories to hire women. Though the pay was lower, the mill gave women more rights than a lot of jobs in that time. -
Erie Canals
Jesse Hawley came up with the idea of creating a canal that could ship goods quicker. Because this created a route from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes, the canal stimulated New York's economy and made New York a greater trading center in America. -
Telegraph
Samuel Morse created this communication device to send and recieve messages that are transmitted by wires. This became a source of communication that paved the way for future communication inventions. -
Steel Pow
John Deere created this tool to dig up soil and plant crops more quickly and efficently.This became the stepping stone in not only John Deere's career, but also all future farming tools. -
Transcontinental Railroad
This was a railroad that strecthed all the way across the country. Created by Leland Stanford, Collis P. Huntington, Mark Hopkins, and Charles Crocker, this further opened the West and connected raw materials to factories and markets easier.
