  • Deported to Auschwitz Concentration Camp

    Deported to Auschwitz Concentration Camp
    Elie Wiesel and his family were forced from their home along with the rest of their small town by Nazi soldiers and loaded onto a truck on its way to Poland. There, was the Auschwitz Concentration camp awaiting them and their fate. Elie and his father were seperated from his mother and sisters and they were sent to different camps not too far from eachother. This is where his mother and two sisters died.

    Along with other Polish immigrants, the Spiegelman family, moved to United States. Most of the immigrants from Europe arrived in Ellis Island, where they inspect all the incoming immigrants if they have the right requirements to live in the U.S. The Speigelman family stayed here in the U.S permenently.

    On June 22, 1941, four million troops poured over the Russian border. Within one month, over two and half million Russians had been killed, wounded or captured. The Germans made tremendous advances into Russia – into portions of Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad.

    Sosnowiec was forced to move to Auschwitz for "document inspection". Apperently they didnt pass the inspection because they are not strong enough to work for the Nazi.
  • Commando Raid

    A Commando raid on occupied Sark, in Channel Islands capture's one German soldier. The fourth German offensive begins in Stalingrad as the 14th Panzer Corps launches an attack in force to capture the Tractor Factory in the northern part of the city.
  • The Lost

    Anja commited suicide, Vladek found her dead in the bathroom. She shlashed her wrist and was overdose.

    On D-Day, June 6, 1944 , General Dwight Eisenhower led U.S. and Allied troops in an invasion of Normandy, France. The armies fought their way through France and Belgium and into Germany while Russian troops fought from the east.

  • Buchenwald Camp: Elie Wiesel's father's death

    As the Soviet army approaching, the Nazis flee the camp they were at and decide to take 60,000 prisoners on the "March of Death" to the camps in Germany. Elie and his father, Chlomo are to be sent on the march to Buchenwald camp (350 miles from Auschwitz) Just 11 days later, news arrive that American soldiers are on their way towards Buchenwald but Chlomo did not make it and dies from the starvation.
  • Buchenwald Camp: Elie Wiesel's Father's death (impact)

    At the age of 16, Elie Wiesel experienced his father die right before him. Holding his father in his arms lifeless left a scar on his life and impacted him greatly. Hearing word of his mother and sisters deaths previously left him shocked and stunned but seeing his father die in front of him made it painful memory that would last for as long as he lived. This represents the theme of Family and Kinship from Development and Transformation of Social Structures.
  • The V-E Day

    Germany Surrendered. The Americans saved other jews who were hidding from the Nazi; Vladek and his friend Shivek was realeased and were hiding for days until the Americans arrived in Poland.
  • Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    The Japanese fought on even after the war in Europe ended. Truman decided to use the newly developed atomic bomb to end the war quickly and prevent more U.S. casualties. The Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945, killing about 78,000 people and injuring 100,000 more. On August 9, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, killing another 40,000 people.
  • Maus 1 release

    Maus I, is the first book that Art Spiegelman wrote about the life of his father before, during and after the Holucust. He dedicated this first book to Anja.
  • The Reunion

    Anja and Vladek was reunited after the war. They left Poland to go to Sweden.
