National Association for Gifted Children is Founded
The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), an organization of parents and educators, addresses the needs of children from all cultures, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and socioeconomic groups with demonstrated gifts and talents as well as those children who may be able to develop their talent potential with appropriate educational experiences.

Expand statutory interpretation of a disability while affording individuals with disabilities greater protections. -
PL 111-256 Rosa's law enacted
Removes the terms mental retardation and mentally retarded from federal health education, and labor statutes. Preferred language is now intellectual disability.
