The First Olympics
The first olympics included running events which started in the year 1896. It was during this time that steeple chase was added by Great Britian. The only running events recorded was the 800 and 1500 meter races. There was only 9 sports compared to the modern day 28 sports. -
The 1904 Olympics
The 1904 Olympics was the year were sports were brought into the Olympics such as boxing and wrestling along with polo which was dropped.
Only 6 foreign countries participated so the United States dominated the medal count. -
Events added to 1912 Olympics
It was not until the 1912 Olympics that the 5000 and 10000 meter races were added. -

The 1912 games in Stockholm was the first to have participates from 5 continents. -
The additon to the Olympics
The 3000 meter steeplechase was added to the 1920 Olympics. -
Winter Games
Ice Hockey was added to the winter games to accompany ice skating. -

Women racing in the Olympics were restricted to only running the 800 meters. -

Up until 1992 the Summer and Winter were held in the same year until they decided to put each Olympic 4 years apart so every two years switched between Summer and Winter Games.
