Ocean City Ice Rink Built

The Cinema
Ocean City Ice Rink was reduced in size to
make way for the Ster Kinekor Cinema which
was one of the most popular things to do in
Durban every Saturday night in the 70’s and
80’s. -
Ster Kinekor Ceased Operation
Leaving half of the building abandoned. The Ocean City Ice
Rink still remained operational hosting many of Margrie Chase’s famous ice shows. -
Olive Group Acquires the Ice Rink
The Olive Group of Companies acquired the building and the Ocean City Ice Rink was renamed as the Durban Ice Rink. -
Olive Convention Centre was launched.
Refurbishments were completed between 2008 -2013 on the cinema half of the building and has hosted many local and international events in this space. -
The Durban Ice Arena was built
The old Durban Ice Rink (affectionately called The Cube) was converted into a venue for the Olive Convention Centre and a international sized rink was built above, now know as the Durban Ice Arena. -
National and Provincial Award Winner
After 9 years since it’s launch Olive Convention Centre scoops 2 awards in one year. National and Provincial Award Winner in the Conference and Exhibition category at the Lilizela Awards. -
