the Stoke Mandeville Games went international. A team of Dutch servicemen joined to compete. The Games then gained more recognition overseas, and more and more countries began to bring athletes to compete in different para-sports. -
The Paralympics first international official games.
In 1960, the Paralympics took place in Rome, making it the first official game. Over 400 participants from 23 different continents participated. Making it the biggest event of that year, which is a huge stepping stone in the history of the Paralympics. -
Paralympic first winter games.
In 1976 the first Winter Games in Paralympics history were held in Sweden, and as with the Summer Games, they have taken place every four years, including a Paralympics Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony. Sweden was the host country of the inaugural Winter Paralympic Games in 1976 in Örnsköldsvik.
