    the Stoke Mandeville Games went international. A team of Dutch servicemen joined to compete. The Games then gained more recognition overseas, and more and more countries began to bring athletes to compete in different para-sports.

    In 1976 the first Winter Games in Paralympics history were held in Sweden, and as with the Summer Games, they have taken place every four years, including a Paralympics Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony. Sweden was the host country of the inaugural Winter Paralympic Games in 1976 in Örnsköldsvik. The sports they got involved in were cross-country skiing, which was a great choice considering the environment
