The Assasination of Franz Ferdinand
In late June 1914, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and his wife visited the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. As they were driving through the city a Bosnian revolutionary named Gavrilo Princip rushed to their car and shot them to death. Gavrilo was a member of a Serbian nationalist group nicknamed the "Black Hand." Serbian officials knew of the assassination and hoped that it would start a war that would bring down the Austro-Hungarian Empire. -

Communists seize Russia
Russia, soon fell out of the war in March, and by November the country was in a full revolution, which was eventually settled by the fall of the Czar Nicholas II, and the rise of the Bulshaviks, led by Vladimir Lenin, and became the communist leader of the Country with the signing of the Treaty of Bret-Litovsk. -

Battle of Argonne Forest
The attack began on September 26, 1918. It was between the Meuse River and the Argonne Forest. The American army has 600,000 troops, some 40,000 tons of supplies, and roughly 4,000 artillery pieces for the most massive attack in history. Slowly the German position fell one by one due to the advancing American troops. Germany inflicted heavy casualties on the American forces, but by early November the Americans shattered the German lines. -

As the end of the war neared the empire's that consisted of the central powers began falling apart and crumbling the the Ottoman Empire quickly fell as rebellions raged over the country, forcing the Ottomans to step down, the same was happening in Germany and the German Emperor stepped down from power, and Germany signed the Armistice that ended the fighting across the western front. -
Treaty Of Versailles officially ends war
in basic terms most of the blame was pointed at Germany, the treaty stripped Germany of its right to have a fully armed army and forced Germany to pay for most of they damages for the war, simply put the only real accomplishment of the war was that it created the conditions for World War II to take place.
