Wall Street Crash
Other things led up to the cause of the Great Depression but the main cuase was the crash in market. It happened in October and it cause poverty and low income for many Americans. It also caused a lack of confidence in the economy and of most people. -
Early Struggles
Only a year later, almost all comapnies were struggling with the economy. The biggest ones struggling were construction, farmers, shipping, and mining. Shipping striggled the most because they couldn't tranpost things to their customers and their cusotmers couldn't provide to their customers. -
Farming
Farming was probably the greatest affected by the depression. The dust bowl was the main reason they couldn't produce the crops that people needed. With farming dried up then many people couldn't eat for a long time. -
The Dust Bowl
The dirty thirties were just one thing that made the Great Depression even worse. The dust bowl was caused by a major drought in most of the country and wouldn't let farmers grow crops. You could plant the crops but they would dry up and then farmers couldn't provide for america with food. -
Riots
Alot of riots broke out everywhere during the Great Depression. Most of them were fighting over jobs or money. Most of them though broke out over food because no one had any. -
1932 Election
New DealThe Presidential Election in 1932 led Frankiln Roosevelt to become President. He shortly presented the New Deal to Congress and they passed it. It had the Relief, Recovery, and Reform package all in one. Relief for the unemployed and the poor, Recovery of the economy to normal levels, and Reform of the financial system to prevent another depression. -
Migration
After a couple of years, many people realized that America wasn't a good place to be at that moment. Immigrants went back to their home countries to go back to the way they used to live. Americans became immigrants to other countries searching for a new life. -
Winter of 1932
During the winter of 1932, things became worse to the point of barely being somehwere to live. It continued that way until 1934 and slowly worked its way back up. The economy became better until 1937 when America made another big mistake. -
Riding the Rails
With many people unemployed, they would have to hitch-hike or hop on a train and ride the rails. Many people headed west to California for agrucultural jobs. Although whenever jobs would open up, people would crowd around and a many as 1,000 people would come looking for a job. -
Indrusty and Labor
Industry and LaborIn 1933, the NRA was established to help generate more jobs. They teamed up with the NIRA to get mor jobs which would lead to more selling. Soon after though the NRA was declared unconstiutional in 1935. -
CWA
President Roosevelt was doing everything in his power to help America. That is what led to the CWA which helps people during the winter. They can eat food and have warm clothes over the Winter. -
Second New Deal
Second New DealIn 1935, the Second New Deal was established by Roosevelt. It donated $5 billion to WPA. That money helped people get jobs at all places for construction, hospitals, schools, and more oppurtunities. -
Recession of 1937
The Recession of 1937 caused the economy to fall back to what it was in 1934. Unemployment went back to 19% lasted that way for 13 months. Further cutbacks were caused in production becuase of unemployment. -
End of the Depression
The EndIn 1939, the economy finally got back on track and the unemployment went down. With the dust bowl gone, farmers could produce for themselves and America. Thankfully, the Depression ended right in time for something bigger to come. -
World War II
Right after the Depression ended, a new bigger thing occured. World War II started in 1939 and the Depression ended just in time. With lower unemployment rates, people could build guns and ammo and could also employ to be a soldier.
