The Gradual Increase of Nazi Persecution of the disabled

  • Adolf Hitler appointed chancellor of Germany

    In November of 1932, the Nazi party won 33 percent of the vote, which was more than any other party, in the German Election. Due to this, President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler, who was the head of the National Socialist German Workers Party (NAZI Party), the new chancellor of Germany. This persecuted people with disabilities because Adolf Hitler was against them and this was the day he grew with the power to kill people with disabilities and jews.
  • Reichstag Fire Decree

    This law was put into place by President von Hindenburg. This law took away the freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the right for people to assemble. This meant that the government now could control what was being published to citizens of Germany. This shows persecution against the disabled because they no longer could obtain information that was true, and could read about information that the Nazi Government wanted.
  • Enabling Act

    The purpose of this law was to create propaganda that makes Hitler look like a good leader so that everyone votes for him to be the new chancellor for Germany. This affected everyone’s lives because of the fact that they did in fact believe this propaganda and voted for Hitler, and Hitler is bad.
  • Burning of "Un-German" Books

    Basically, what happened in this event is Hitler ordered all of the Nazis to burn all of the books, almost, because the only books considered to be okay were ones that were pro-nazi. Any book that was Anti-Nazi, Un-German, or published by a Jew were burned. This persecuted disabilities because if a disabled person wanted to share their story they couldn't and if they did all three hard work would be burned.
  • Sterilization Law

    Law for the prevention of offspring with hereditary Diseases they don’t want people that have physical or mental disabilities to have babies.
    For anyone with physical or mental disabilities, 400,000 Germans were sterilized from January 1934 to May 1945 and they couldn't have children because they didn’t want more disabled people. This persecuted the disabled because Hitler didn’t allow them to have babies.
  • Hitler Becomes Fuhrer

    president paul von died. Hitler became president. Hitler got rid of the office and declared himself as the dictator. Hitler could do whatever he wanted to do. This persecuted against the disabled because that means he can start miss treating the un-human
  • Euthanasia Decree

    This law was the first mass-killing from the Nazis and killed over 250,000 people. 10,00 of those people were children from 1-17. Children were submitted into hospitals and were killed by lethal doses or starvation. This persecuted the disabled because they were one of the groups to have to go through this because Hitler believed they were trash and un-human.
  • Laws for the protection of the German Blood and Honor

    Jewish people could not marry non-Jews. It was illegal for couples to be of mixed-race this just shows persecution because it's unfair to everyone in Germany.
  • Aldred Wodl

    Alfred was diagnosed as "intellectually disabled”. in 1939 his mom Anna sent him to Maria Gugging Psychiatric Clinic. patients started disappearing suspiciously Anna went to Maria and started arguing with a nazi officer the officer said he wouldn't send Alfred away and February 22, 1941, Alfred died and the nazi officers told Anna he died of “pneumonia”
  • Germany invades the Soviet Union

    Breaking the August 1939 non-aggression pact, Nazi Germany launched a surprise invasion of the Soviet Union and the areas occupied by the Soviet Union (including Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia). Mobile killing squads, called Einsatzgruppen, followed behind the German lines, murdering Jews and other victims by shooting and gassing in the gas vans. This goes persecuted disabled people because they are part of the other victims because Hitler also didn't like them.
  • Mass murder begins at Chelmno

    Chelmno was the first Major killing operation in order to annihilate the Jewish population. Chelmno was also the first location to use gas to mass-murder Jews. At least 172,000 Jews and others were killed here. This persecuted disabled people because what if they had Jewish families and people with disabilities were killed for no reason.
