    There was a freedom in teaching and learning, there was a organic decree 1870 “the education is one of the functions of the government and the obligation from the parents to their children”. The president was Eustorgio Salgar. The church had the responsibility on the moral contain of the education.

    The 1000 days of war and the separation of the Panama Canal got stuck the curriculum because children desert from the school to go to the war.

    According to the decree 491 in the secondary school the subjects were Spanish, Latin, French, English, accounting, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, Geography, History, philosophy, and Arithmetic.

    The Education in Colombia imposed the numbers of hours that students had to study weekly with the main subjects, besides the schools had to have Physics and Chemistry Labs.

    To learn Latin was optional, the people were interested in English and French. Also, mathematics, natural science, religion as case of study.

    The Religion subject was fundamental, everybody had to memorize the prayers such as the Lord’s Prayer, the ten commandments: the arithmetic use the four operations: sum, minus, multiplication and division; reading and writing was taught by oral ways. The first two years in the school students only use pencils, after that they had to use rechargeable pens. There was other subjects such as History, Geography, and Science.

    Since the1960’s the curriculum has had some changes, it included the ICT. The kindergarten is divided into three levels: pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and transition. The kindergarten became in Preschooler, the primary schools had five levels and the secondary had six levels. Some of the subjects were: Cathedra Mutis, Cathedra Bolivariana, Etic, trigonometry, democracy education, chemistry, physics, technology, music, physical education, reading comprehension, role plays, theater, and so on.
