    Napoleon Bonaparte was a Frenchman who was a leader in the military during the French Revolution. After the war he started attacking multiple other countries in Europe. One of which was Spain. They Spanish now had to focus on their own country in Europe instead on the one they were trying to build. This lead to the Spanish missing key ideas that was going on in the Americas.
  • Louisiana purchase

    Louisiana purchase
    The Louisiana purchase by the United states started causing conflict soon. The boundaries were not clear and their were argument between the Spanish and Americans. This is important to the Mexican independence because this added more conflict to the Spanish empire. They were now facing trouble on multiple fronts. But this was soon solved with the neutral ground between Texas and Louisiana.

    In effort to funding their on going war in Europe. The Spanish government confiscated all church assets in Mexico. This took away the source of available capital in the viceroyalty. This caused the Mexicans to be unhappy with Spanish rule
  • New Spanish rule

    New Spanish rule
    When Napoleon went through Spain in order to reach Portugal. He took over Spanish rule giving the throne to his brother Joesph. The Spanish citizens rose to revolt against Bonaparte. The Spanish in Mexico also had the same feeling. Mexico cities elite decided that New Spain should be ruled by junta until order is restored.

    Father Hidalgo was a Mexican who thought that they should be ruled by their own people not Spain. He gave a speech on why his community should join him on his path to freedom. Not many people followed him at first, but they soon grew in numbers. He was known for his war flag that had Mother Guadalupe on it.

    Juan Casas was a retired Criollo officer. He claimed to be a loyal subject of Ferdinand VII. He was trying to prevent the province from falling into anarchy. He was joined by many Father Hidalgo followers. As well as many people from San Antonio.

    United States help
    Jose Lara was sent by his people to ask for help from the American government. He failed to get overt assistance, but got tacit approval. Back in Louisiana he met with men there. This turned out to form the Republican Army of the North.

    This document created equality among all citizens of the empire. Also a constitutional monarchy that divided the empire into provinces. Each provinces would have it's own representation.

    He was Texas first delegate. He went to Mexico to express Texas's desperate needs. He got multiple laws passed but didn't get all of his problems solved. The amount of troops in Texas was a big concern. There wasn't enough men to be able to expand.

    Mexico gained it's independence from Spain. They wrote their own constitution in 1824. The Spain rule was forced out. But this wasn't Mexico's only problems, They would now have to deal with Texas.
