The Sugar Act
The Sugar Act taxed the sugar and molasses. The Sugar Act hurt many businesses in New England Colonies. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act taxed paper items. This included newspapers, legal documents, and playing cards. This made many colonists very angry. -
The Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts taxed glass, tea, paint, and paper. This taxed mostly imported items and/or materials into the colonies. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770. It occured after several colonists chose to shout and throw rocks at British soldiers. The soldiers felt a threat and opened fire, killing several men. One of them, Crispus Attucks, was shot and killed. -
The Repeal of the Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts were all repealed in the year of 1770. The only tax not repealed was the tax on tea. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party occurred after Parliament passed the Tea Act. It is thought that Samuel Adams planned The Boston Tea Party. The Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans, boarded ships filled with tea shipments, and broke open 300+ chests of tea throwing them into the Boston Harbor. -

The Battle of Lexington and Concord was fought between the British and Colonists/Militia after General Gage heard that two men, Samuel Adams and John Hancock, were scheduled to meet in Lexington. -
The Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was formed/met on May 10 of 1775. The colonial leaders appointed George Washington the commander in chief of all the military forces. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought and Breed’s Hill on June 17 of 1775. This war was between the Continental Army and the British soldiers. Colonial commander Israel Putnam shouted “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes.” He said this in order to save/conserve ammunition. -
The Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition is a petition that was sent to King George III. This asked for peace, and was called the Olive Branch Petition because an olive branch is an ancient symbol of peace. -
