Zacharias Janssen, alongside his father, Hans, is responsible for inventing the microscope in around the year 1590. This invention is indirectly responsible for the creation of microbiology, and resulted in the discovery of the cell theory. Janssen’s invention of the microscope led to the possibility of studying cells, and also enabled future scientists to reject the theory of spontaneous generation.
