The Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was passed to help reduce the debt from the French and Indian War. It was also passed to address the smuggling in the colonies. The act put a tax on sugar, molasses, syrup, etc. -
The Quartering Act
The Quartering Act was passed because the soldiers were protecting the colonists and they needed sufficient housing and food. The Quartering Act said that colonists had to open their home to soldiers and give them food and a place to sleep. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed so that everyone paid the same for taxes. The act said that you had to pay a tax for a stamp that you would then stamp onto a document such as pamphlets, commercial papers, newspapers, etc -
The Townshend Act
The Townshend Act was passed to replace the Stamp Act. It was a more permanent solution that still taxed the people. The act put a tax on things such as colored lead, painter's colors, tea, and paper. The act also states that officers were allowed to raid colonists homes to make sure they weren't smuggling any of the suggested items. -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act was passed to ease tensions in the colonies and to help the East India Company out of financial trouble. The act said that you could only buy tea from the Company which gave them a monopoly on tea sales. Tea became very expensive. -
Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Boston Port Act
The Boston Port Act was passed to punish Massachusetts because of the Boston Tea Party. The act said that the colonists could no longer leave the port, load their ships with cargo, or ship out supplies. Essentially King George closed The Harbour of Boston. -

Intolerable/Coercive Acts: Quebec Act
The Quebec Act was passed to punish the 13 colonies by giving some of their lands to Quebec. The act said that all the territories belonging to the crown of Great Britain are annexed to Quebec.
