The British Acts

  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act made it so any merchandise that contains sugar the colonists had to pay a separate tax for. It was passed to Increase the revenue to help reduce the debt caused by the French and Indian War. I would not be happy if I was a colonist.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act said that the colonists had to give the British soldiers shelter so they could protect them from colonial interests. The colonists were not happy about this. They had to let someone in their home and feed them.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act said that any official paperwork needed a stamp that costed money and the colonists had to pay an extra tax for. The act was passed so the British government could get more money easily. This was unreasonable to the colonists.
  • The Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act was passed to stop smuggling into the colonies. The Act also said that the colonies had to pay a separate tax for this. Smuggling was very common and the colonies were not happy about this.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea act took away taxes from all imported goods other than tea. Tea was commonly drank in the colonies and often times smuggled. The East India Tea Company was struggling with smuggling and finances so, the British government decided to help them out and add taxes to their tea.
  • Boston Port Act

    Boston Port Act
    The Boston port Act was passed to gain better control of the colonies by making it so that no one could export goods into Boston except for the British. The colonies loved to export goods. The colonies were very angry and did not agree with this at all.
  • Government Act and The Administration of Justice Act

    Government Act and The Administration of Justice Act
    The British Government passed this law to gain more control over the colonies. The act said that the colonists no longer had a choice to choose who governs them and who enforces their laws. The colonies wanted an opinions and a choice so the colonies were mad.
  • The Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act
    The Quebec Act said that the British citizens living in Quebec could keep their Catholic faith. It also extended the land of Quebec into the land that had formerly been the 13 colonies. The colonies wanted their land so they were angry.
