Sugar Act
The king and the Parliament of Britain raised prices on sugary products in the 13 colonies. They also put a direct tax on the colonists for sugar. They did this because of all the debt they were in after the war. -
Quartering Act
Britain sent their soldiers to protect threats coming from the French and the Indians against the colonists. This would mean that the colonists had to provide food and shelter for the soldiers while they were there. The real reason they sent their soldiers to the 13 colonies was to get them their basic necessities. -
The Stamp Act
It stated that all papers will cost more for the people to buy. Britain really put out this act so it would include British citizens into paying more taxes, instead of just having everyone else pay. -
The Townshend Act
The Townshend Acts were measures taken by the British government to raise revenue and punish colonies for the smuggling. -
The Tea Act
There was a lot of tension from the people in the 13 colonies after all the new taxes the British had put out. The king decided to repeal some of those taxes but not on tea. He had also realized that the East India Company was in trouble. So, he made them run through him and hopefully get them back on their feet. This act slowed down smuggling too. -
Boston Port Act
Britain started to lose their grip over the 13 Colonies, especially after the Boston Tea Party. So, they decided that they should punish Boston for what they did. They made a law that no one can trade goods on ships. This affected many people and made their lives harder. -
MA Government Act and the Administration of Justice Act
Britain still was losing control of the colonies. So, they made a another important law that really affected the colonies. It stated that all crimes committed in the colonies have to be overseen by the king. Also, any meeting occurring in the 13 colonies can't be held without permission. -
Quebec Act
This act helped out the French's beliefs a lot. It stated that the British won't be allowed to control their religious beliefs as much. It also said that the British would take the the original 13 colonies land, which was Newfoundland.
