Angel Island My name is Ming Ton and I was born here and it was not one of my favorite places to be. My family does not make good money and we have to share a house with 3 other families. My parents work for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week and we still barely make it. This was a bad life -
Eavesdropped
During the night I couldn't sleep so I went to get a drink. When I was getting a drink I overheard my parents talking about moving to America. And sure enough the next day they announced that we were going to Angel Island. The day was wierd my mom kept asking me what I knew about America. Then during the night we packed. -
On our way
SanfranciscoThis tripis taking forever. I thought we would be there already but we still have about 2 weeks left. My parents are trying to comfort my but it isn't really working. There are to many people here and it is hard to breath. It is so hot in here that I hope the next few weeks go by fast. After 2 weeks ( which to me it seemed like 2 years) We landed in the Harbor of Sanfrancisco. I thought we were free now but we had to take a test. Now I know why my parents kept asking me what I knew about America -
To the sweatshop
I have been working in this sweatshop for most of my life here in America. The working conditions are harsh and I think they should at least improve the sweatshops.My whole family is working here and we are making way more money here than we had made in China altogether. I have been going to a school but in a few weeks I will have enough money to go to a private school. I have grown alot and I am working up in the rankings at the shop. Life is good. -
The new oppurtunity
I am now 60 years old and should be retired but I need more money. Lucky for me an Irish immigrant invented a new way to mass produce steel. I have found a job helping people make the steel. It makes extremely good money and I should be retired in a couple months. This event will change my life forever. -
The retirement
I have just retired and I am as wealthy as can be. I inherited all my families belongings when they died and they made quite alot of money from the gold rush. I know live in my own house and have taken a liking to writing. I published a book about my struggles to America. I can now say I'm living like a king. I never thought that I a chinese immigrant would become wealthy. This is the best life I could have hoped for
