    In 1248 the Aztecs arrived from the North to the Valley of Mexico. They initially settled by the Lake Texcoco in Chapultepec, but they were soon kicked out by the Tepanec people.

    In 1325, after they got kicked out from where they first settled, they built the city of Tenochtitlan on one of the swampy islands of Lake Texcoco.

    Templo Mayor
    In 1325, Templo Mayor was first being built, and was one of the key temples of Tenochtitlan. This was dedicated to Huitzilopochtli, the god of war, and Tlaloc, the god of rain and agriculture. Its base measures 100 by 80 meters, it was reconstructed 6 times since it was built.

    In 1376, about 50 years after the city was built, the first ruler, Acamapichtli was elected to lead the city. He was not a native of the city but he was from an influential family with the Aztecs.

    In 1428, with their leader as Itzcoatl, the Aztecs formed a three-way alliance with the Texcocans, and the Tacobans. They united to defeat their most powerful rivals. Their goal was to conquer the Tepanecs capital of Azcapotzalco.

    In 1452 the Lake Texcoco overflowed and severely damaged a lot of Tenochtitlan. Under the emperor of Ahuitzotl, the City was rebuilt and was built even better than it was before.

    Montezuma II was one of the last emperor of the Aztecs. He was born in 1466 in Tenochtitlan, Mexico. His parents are Axayacatl and Xochicueyetl.

    Comet
    In 1517, a comet was seen in the sky and the aztecs thought it was a sign of doom and destruction. When Hernan Cortes showed up at the gate, they were hesitant because of the comet.

    Hernan Cortes

    Hernan Cortes
    In 1520 Hernan Cortes marched to Tenochtitlan, the home and capital of emperor, Montezuma II. Cortes took Montezuma II hostage and his soldiers raided the city. Cortes left after finding out the Spanish troops were coming to arrest him for disobeying orders.

    Cuauhtemoc

    From 1520 to 1521 Cuauhtemoc was the ruler of Tenochtitlan, after Montezuma II had died, and before the Spaniards took over Tenochtitlan. He fought against the Spaniards but was taken prisoner in 1521. He was then executed by Cortes in 1525.
