    American school for the Deaf
    The American school for the deaf was founded April 15, 1817 and the 2 people to create this school were Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, and Laurent Clerc. It was the first school for the deaf and still remains open to this day. This school resides in Hartford, CT.

    ARC/USA
    The Arc of the United States was founded in 1950 by parents of students with disabilities. To this day it continues to grow as a community and help many people with disabilities. It all started with concerned families wanting their children to have the same rights as others.

    LDA
    LDA stands for Learning Disabilities association of America and has supported many with disabilities since 1963. This organization overall wants to help those with learning disabilities and their families. They want them to get the best support they can get.

    The elementary and secondary education act was signed into law in 1965. This law was signed by president Johnson. His goal for this law was that every student no matter their disabilities get the best education possible.
  • PARC v. Pennsylvania

    PARC v. Pennsylvania
    In PARC v. commonwealth of Pennsylvania the court ruled that all students with disabilities get equal rights to education in schools. This court case ruled against the schools for families not being able to get their kids the schooling needed. This court case went against discrimination.

    Mills v. Board of Education
    Mills v. Board of Education District of Columbia was another court case that wad done in 1972 all children with disabilities get the same rights in schools as others. This court case started when 7 students were denied their rights to school based on their disabilities. It gave every student the right to free public education no matter disabilities.

    The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 helps to fund to programs for those with disabilities. It helps to give extra money so people with disabilities are able to get the extra help they need. It overall is what gives the money to help.

    In 1975 the Education For All Handicapped children act was signed by President Ford. This act makes sure all schools with they money will give all students with disabilities the education needed and a meal a day. This act helped to ensure equal rights in schools.

    In 1986 Madeleine Will came up with the idea for the Regular Education Initiative. This overall is just the idea that disabled students don't always need to be separated from other students. It helps to keep all students in schools equal and give the help needed.

    In 1990 the EAHCA took the name IDEA. this was due to new disabilities being added to the list that fit under IDEA. IDEA stands for The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and is what we go by now.
