The Invention of the Cotton Gin
In 1794, Eli Whitney created the Cotton Gin which was an efficient and new innvention for cleaning cotton. Cotton production later increased 3 thousand bales. Before the invention, workers could maybe clean 1 pound a day. Now they could clean up to 50. -
Louisiana Purchase
Napolean Bonaparte requested to buy the Louisiana Purchase from Spain. He wanted to use this to expand his empire but later didn't want to anymore. So, he offered to sell the Louisiana Territory to the US. Thomas Jefferson purchased it for $15 million and later sent out the Discovery Corpse with Lewis and Clark to go out and explore what this land had to offer. -
Mormon Migration
A group called the Mormons migrated west for religious persecution. They soon found out where their place in society stood. They settled in present day, Boise, Idaho at the Great Salt Lake. It soon became Mormon society and was refered to as "Deseret". -
Lowell Textile Mills
Several large textile mills in Lowell, Massachusetts made textiles. Thousands of people, especially women came out in search for jobs. They paid low wage and the women mostly taught, sewed, and did domestic work. -
The Indian Removal Act /Trail of Tears
Congress with the help of Andrew Jackson created the Indian Removal Act where Native Americans were forced to move west and sign removal treaties. 8 years later, in 1838, the Trail of Tears happened. The Cherokees crossed 800 miles (1,000 each) to move to Indian Territory. -
The Invention of the Telegraph
Samuel F. B. Morse, created the telegraph, an invention sending codes over wire over short time. It helped in so many ways. One way was with railroads and ensured that the trains were running on time and warned the engineers about hazards. -
Annexation of Texas 1844
Most Texans hoped the US would annex their republic but many people had mixed feelings aobut this. Southerners wanted to extend slavery while Northerners felt like annexation would tip uneasy balance. In the end, James K. Polk favored annexation of Texas. -

The Gadsden Purchase
President Franklin Pierce authorized James Gadsden to purchase the Gadsden Purchase from Mexico. It was located in the south and was a great place for railroad routes establishments leading to the Pacific Ocean.
