Sugar Act
This act revised duties on sugar, coffee, tea, wine, other imports; expanded jurisdiction of viceadmirality courts. Several assemblies protested this taxation for revenue. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament and was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. It wasn't the cost of the the tax that upset people, but the fact that the e colonists had no such representation in Parliament; therefore the Stamp Act was unconstitutional. Quartering Act
This act forced colonists to supply British troops with housing and other items such as candles and firewood. -
Declaratory Act
Parliment declares its sovereignty over the colonies "in all ccases whatsover." No much attention waas paid twords this act. -
Townshend Revenue Acts
This act created more duties on glass, lead, paper, paints, and tea. Also, customs collections tightened in America. This act was greatly fought aganst; they halted importation of British goods, they assembled protests, and newspapers attacked the policy as well. -
Tea Act
Parliament gave the East India Company rights to sell tea directly to Americans in this act. Protests against favoritism began, and the Boston Tea Party also happened. -
Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)
This act closed the ports in Boston and restructured the Massachusetts government. It also restricted town meetings and quartered troops in Boston. Brittish officials who were accused of crimes were sent to England or Canada for trial. Many boycotts of british goods began. Also, first Continental Congress convenes. -
Prohibitory Act
This act declares British intention to coerce Americans into submission It began an embargo on American goods and their ships were seized.
