The Second Battle of Bull Run/Second Manassas

Emancipation Proclamation
President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. The proclamation declared "that all persons held as slaves are, and henceforward shall be free." This changed the outlook of the American Civil War, and gave the Federalists something worth fighting for. Pic:

Union Major Genenral George Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated attacks by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, ending Lee's attempt to invade the North.
