Men wor suits and 1940s suit pockets could not have flaps, trousers could not be more the 19 inches around or be cuffed, and suits were sold without vests. With the start of the war and a strict rationing on fabric, dresses in the 1940s became shorter, the 1930s dress came down to mid calf, the 1940s brought them up to knee length. Boys in the 1940s commonly wore trousers or shorts with long socks and blazers, while young girls wore short dresses. -
