After The Great Plains are over plowed for farming, drought and abnormal winds come to the area. The only plants that hold the earth together are the wheat crops, but they quickly whither away. The stirred dirt left behind become dust clouds that bury homes and suffocate livestock. -

The Great Depression started in 1929. In 1932 The Texas economy truly suffered. The price of oil crashed, along with many other goods. Texas cotton decreased 40% making it cost only 5 cents a pound. Many farmers leave Texas after the cotton got cheap. -

After president Hoovers poor actions make Americans question the government, Franklin Delano Roosevelt beats him in the November election. He took office later in January, and was the only president to be elected 4 times. -
Texas Rangers kill Bonnie and Clyde
Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were shot 4 dozen times in a police ambush by Texas Rangers as they were driving a stolen car in Louisiana ending the manhunt. The pair had spent the previous 2 years killing and robbing banks in the Midwest, and were believed to have committed 13 murders. -
Black Sunday
On April 14, the worst "Black Blizzard" of the Dust bowl occurred blanketing the land in dust. The storm was pith black, and more than a mile high. It ravaged Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. -
Texas Independence centennial
Though Texas was greatly affected by the great depression, it wasn't gonna let that ruin the 100th anniversary of its independence day. Texas banks loaned out lots of money so that this celebration could happen. -
New London Texas School Explosion
Due to a gas leak, a school in New London TX burst into flames. Over 300 children perish in the explosion, and the buildings are left in shambles. -
A Cavalcade of Texas is played at the state fair
A Cavalcade of Texas was the first Texas movie to be filmed in Technicolor, which was only a recent invention at the time. The film lasted 49 minutes, and it taught viewers of the beauty of Texas. -

After 8 terrible years of dust and drought, autumn brings rains that end the dry period. Soil conservation laws passed by Franklin Roosevelt have reduced most soil erosion.
