Manzanar Internment Camp
"In 1942, the United States government ordered more than 110,000 men, women, and children [into] remote, military-style camps. Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of ten camps . . ." (nps.gov). "That night dust and yellow sand blew through the knotholes in the walls and floor. By morning their blankets were covered with it" (Guterson 219). David Guterson uses imagery to illustrate how difficult life at Manzanar was for the internees from the first night. Photo by Ansel Adams (nps.gov)
