This lead to the Civil War.

This also reduced the exportation of cotton to Britain. This lead to the Civil War.

However, there was tensions because the region wanted to be a slave state. Senator Stephen A. Douglas from Illinois came up with the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The act said that people in the region would vote for what they prefered. This was called popular sovereignty. This lead to the Civil War.
