Encounters bear cub while hunting - nicknamed Teddy
It all started with a hunting trip President Roosevelt took in 1902 in Mississippi at the invitation of Mississippi Governor, Andrew H. Longino. They found a bear and tied it up to a tree and and called for Roosevelt to come and shoot it. Roosevelt felt that it would be unsportsmanlike, however the bear was injured so he ordered for it to be put down, The word got across the country and everyone saw the picture of Roosevelt refusing to shoot the bear. Thats how he got the name Teddy. -
