I am given a teacher iPad as well as a desktop computer. The desktop computer is connected to an overhead projector. The projector projects onto an Eno Board. I am actively using the computer and projector to present content to students via Powerpoints, worksheets, videos, etc. Students are passively using technology in the sense that they are observing all displayed content.

We have 3 laptops in our classroom mostly used for students to take AR tests on. We have a designated computer lab time each week. This 30 minute time period is used for the Type to Learn and IXL. The school has one laptop cart and one cart of iPads. I do not check the carts out reguluarly this year. This year, naturally, is spent understanding curriculum and how to deliver content to students. In terms of theory, the aforementioned examples demonstrate a teacher-centered approach.

Over the summer, I attend The Feast at Bloomington High School and learn about a variety of technologies and programs. I am specifically focused on learning about programs that can be used without 1:1 devices. We have decided to departmentalize this year, and I will be teaching math and science. Now, we have enough iPads for 3 iPad carts that contain 25-30 iPads each. These carts are shared amongst K-1, 2-3, and 4-5.

Students have access to a full computer lab in the library & the handful of laptops in our classroom. Our weekly 30 minute computer lab is used for IXL/Type to Learn. I'm continuing to use technology to deliver content via Powerpoint, worksheets, videos, etc. I begin incorporating technology into our math centers through the use of IXL and Ten Marks. Also using Seesaw to record videos of solving math problems to be posted to portfolios.

Students are learning how to use apps like IXL, Seesaw, Ren Place, and Reflex Math. The use of the iPads become a staple in math centers as well as an early finishers activity. In May, I am told that our fifth graders will be given Chromebooks next school year! All fifth grade students will keep their devices at school while grades 6-12 take theirs home each night. We will now be 1:1 in grades 5-12 in our district! In terms of theory, this year is still very much teacher-centered.

I attend The Feast at Bloomington High School again over the summer. I am now focused on programs that can be used with 1:1 devices. I am given a Chromebook at the end of Year 2 in order to be able to experiment with it over the summer. I also begin the TCH master’s program at ISU. I am continuing to use technology to deliver content via Powerpoint, worksheets, videos, etc. Students are becoming more active in using technology specifically learning how to use their Chromebook.

    Year 3: 2017-2018 Part 2

Students are learning how to use the basic functions of the Chromebook and how the Chromebook is set up. We touch on digital citizenship occasionally. Our grade level has stopped using iPads entirely. We have also eliminated our weekly computer lab time because it is no longer necessary. During our math centers, students are using their Chromebooks for IXL and Reflex Math. We begin learning how to use Google Docs in writing class as well as math.

Ultimately, this year is focused on students learning how to use the devices & how to use search engines to answer questions. In terms of theory, this year still demonstrates nuances of teacher-centered approaches but begins to incorporate nuances of Constructivism. Students have a general understanding of what iPads and computers can do in a context outside of school. They are beginning to learn how we can use their familiar technology within the classroom.

    Year 4: 2018-2019 Part 1

Our school is now 1:1 with Chromebooks in grades 3-12. The iPads are now distributed amongst K-2 and all K-2 classrooms have a class set. Our library and computer lab are transformed into a Learning Center as a flexible learning space. All desktop computers in the computer lab are removed because all students technically have a 1:1 device they can use. A cart of 30 laptops is still available for checkout if needed.

    Year 4: 2018-2019 Part 2

I am continuing to use technology to deliver content via Powerpoint, worksheets, videos, etc. Because the devices are brand new to this group of fifth graders, we spend a great deal of time learning the functionality. Teachers are given access to Go Guardian monitoring software as well as Mirroring 360. Students continue to use IXL and Reflex Math in math centers. We are utilizing Google Classroom more this year to share documents, forms, slides, and videos with students.

    Year 4: 2018-2019 Part 3

The students are becoming more comfortable with using the devices. I have still not provided opportunities for them to create with the technology. As it has been, technology is used mostly as a convenience factor within the classroom. It has been used mostly at the substitution level. In terms of theory, I am noticing that I am still very teacher-centered. Notes of Constructivism are still noticeable as students are learning how to use tools like Google Docs/Sheets/Slides across content areas.
