Technology Timeline

  • First Home Computer

    First Home Computer
When I was in elementary, our house had one computer in it. The computer only had games such as Minesweeper, Paint, and a golf game that I don't remember the name of it. It had the huge monitor with the chunky tower. The keyboards were very clicky. It was in my parents' bedroom because they didn't want us on it for more than 15 minutes at a time.
  • First DVD Player

    First DVD Player
This was a big event for us because we ONLY had VHS of everything Disney and Shirley Temple. I remember when Disney started releasing DVDs and we weren't able to purchase them because we didn't have a DVD player! But, technology saved the day and came out with the combined VCR/DVD player. My mom still has it and uses it to let her grandbabies watch Disney movies.
  • First Portable Music Player

    First Portable Music Player
I was so excited to finally be able to carry music with me while hiding it! At our school, any type of portable music and even cellphones were prohibited on buses and at athletic events, etc. I bought my first Ipod Shuffle when I was a sophomore (2006) and it was small enough to hide. It was a little bit inconvenient trying to download music from friends's houses, but worth it!
  • Facebook Introduction

    Facebook Introduction
My sophomore year of high school, 2006, we were introduced to Facebook. Parents were very unsure of the platform, so we had to sneak it if we wanted to have one. We spent many days in computer class goofing off on Facebook, but now it is one of the only ways I communicate with a lot of people! And....my parents have one :)
  • First Cellphone

    First Cellphone
Phones had been mobile for some time, but they were the really big phones that were kept mostly in cars for emergencies. It had a big black twisty cord that plugged into the cigarette lighters in the car. However, a pivotal moment of my life was my Junior year where I received my first cellphone. I had limited texting (like 100 texts a month) and limited minutes (unless it was to someone on the same plan). I remember my bright green case that I bought for it. I felt like a millionaire.
