The current teaching environment is one where our instructors are building on their ability to deliver direct instruction with standards-based curriculum. Our ability to implement the trend will surround our ability to find meaningful and relevant games that augment learning and boost achievement. -
Identify
Gamification! The use of gaming themes and concepts to bolster engagement, build critical thinking skills, and increase learning! -
Plan
At the moment, no classrooms are incorporating gamification. However, by the end of the year, at least one classroom can be used as a model for all future gamification endeavors! -
Materials
All classrooms already have access to the school's WiFi Internet and every student is given a Chromebook. -
Create a shared-vision
Tap teachers who wish to pilot the gamification initiative, and draft a mission and vision -
Unpack standards
Team will identify which standards they want covered in a game (i.e. which Common Core math standard) -
Research options
Team will be given a budget and will network with curriculum partners at the district and online to find the right game -
Demo the game
Teacher will practice with the games they researched, and select their favorite one -
Pilot the game in one classroom
Implement the game in one classroom and evaluate its effectiveness -
Make adjustments
Make any adjustments necessary to work out the glitches and be ready for full implementation -
Present findings
Present findings to other teachers, talk about difficulties and successes -
Partner with a new teacher!
Now it's time to grow! Partner with a new teacher and share the wealth! The whole school will be gamified in no time!
