    Tarapoto was founded in august 20 1782

    Tarapoto remained under the jurisdiction of the audience in Quito for 63 years until the King of Spain, Carlos IV, on July 15, 1802, who ordered through the royal decree, the return of the ceded territories. The reports of the governor of the general command of Maynas, Don Francisco de Requena, had exercised an admirable political power capable of changing the political and administrative system of the Viceroyalty of New Granada.
