Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a law passed by Parliment that placed a tax on printed materials such as legal documents, newspapers, and playing cards.The Colonist felt that it was unfair, because they did not have a say in government. Their main battle cry was, "No Taxation without Representation!" -
Sons of Liberty
The Sons of Liberty was a group founded by Samuel Adams. They protested agianst the new law. They also burned stamps and threatend stamp collecters by burning thier houses.They were happy of achieving their goal to get rid of stamp collecters and stopping the Stamp Act. -
Daughters of Liberty
The Daughters of Liberty was formed by Mercy Otis Warren. They helped boycott by weaving coloth without using British wool. The boycott started hurting British Businesses alot. -
The Townshed Acts
Parliment repealed the Stamp Act. This broght happiness to the Colonist. The king still needed to tax the colonist for money and Charles Townshed agreed with him. In 1967 Parliment passed the Townshed Acts which said that there was tax on paper, wool, tea, etc. The colonists said that they would never pay the tax. -
Boston Massacre
Colonist started insulting and throwing things at Hogh White and his soldiers. The soldiers panicked and accidentally fired. All the soldiers thought they were supposed to fire, so they fired. The firing killed 5 colonist, so the soldiers were sent to court, but John Adams defended them. King George got really angry and toke out all of the soldiers from Boston. -
The Committees of Correspondence
Samuel Adams created the Committee of Correspondence. Before long, the Committee of Correspondence was popping up in many cities. The Committees wrote letters about local events to each other about their colonies. The letters were delivered by riders that rode fast horses. The riders were called The Express Riders. -
Boston Tea Party
Parliment wrote an act called the Tea Act. The act said that the colonist can only get tea from one company. The colonist did not want to pay the tax for the tea and were really angry. One night members of the Sons of Liberty attacked a ship full of tea and threw all of the tea into the harbor. -
The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts was passed to punish Boston for the Tea Party. The Acts said that Massachusettes was put under control by a general called Thomas Gage. The port of Boston was closed. This hurt Boston's Economy, becuse they did alot of trading. The British Soldiers from the Massacre were sent back and the colonist had to feed and house them. All of the colony's leaders were going to hold the First Continental Congress in Pennselvania to disccus how repeal the act. -
1st Continental Congress
All of the colony's main leaders excet Georgia's met in Philedadelphia to attend the 1st Continental Congress. At the congress they disscussed how to reapeal the Intolerable Acts. They atalked about to stoping trade with Britian until the acts were repealed. They also talked about forming militias for each colony. The last thing they siad was that if things were not improving in one year, they would hold another meeting. -
