Prenatal Development
Language can start as early in the womb. By 30 weeks of gestational age babies can acquire language by hearing muffled sounds in their outside environment. -

Development 0-3 Months
At this age in development babies may be able to: smile by your presence, "cooing sounds", and recognize familiar love one's voices. -

Development 4-6 Months
At this age in development babies may be able to: make a variety of sounds "babbling", move eyes in the direction of sound, can use sound to express pleasure or pain. -

Development 7-12 months
During this stage in development babies may be able to: turn and look in the direction of sound, can imitate different sounds, and use one or two words "Hi", "Dada" "Mama". -

Development 1-2 years of age
During this age in development a child may be able to: follow simple direction "Bring the ball", know a few parts of their body and can form one to two word questions "Where Mama". -

At this time the toddler may be able to: speak in a way speech can be understood, can name objects, and can use 2-3 phrases to ask for items. -

At this time a child may be able to: name letters, and numbers, understand rules at home and school, and pay attention to short stories and answer simple questions -

At this age in development a child may be able to: vocabulary comprehension increases, use complex sentences, and uses imaginary language. -

At this time a child may be able to: can blend sounds, can produce narrative plots such as: beginning, end, problem, and resolution, and decoding -

At this age in development a child may be able to: form an opinion based on evidence, can express their opinion with supportive ideas, and use more figurative language in conversation. -

At this age in development a pre-teen may be able: begin reasoning, abstract thinking, applying logic, and understands the difference between active and passive language.
