    eseaEnacted to be a "war on poverty," this act seeks to estabilish equal education for students. ESEA has been amended and updated several times, including as NCLB.

    The court decided that children with disabilitieis needed to have access to the public education or a suitabile alternative, no matter the cost.
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act

    Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
    Persons with exceptionalities that are not eligible for special ed. Their exceptionalities are not a substancial impendament to their education. General education teachers maintain documentation, but services are based on their disability, not academic improvement (text).
  • Education for All Handicapped Children (EAHCA)

    Children with disablitities now have access to public schools. Standards were estabilished that both schools and students needed to meet to recieve funding. Components to this include, but are not limited to: Free Appropriate Public Education, Least Restrictive Environoment, and Zero Reject (text).

    The Early Intervention Program amendment allowed services to children birth to age 3 (text). The documentation is a Individual Family Service Plan. As such, it meets the needs of the family. Key to Part C the avoidance of labeling when possible.

    This Act seeks to close the achievment gab between students by 2012. State tests and standards are to be created. As many students as possible are required to participate. Less than 1% can use alternative assessment methods (text).
