Brown v. Board of Education
This court case was kind of considered the start of special educational needs. After this court hearing parents of disabled children began bringing their lawsuits up against their school districts for discriminating against their children with disabilities. -
Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 it was brought to light that there was inequality for educational growth in underprivledged children. In 1966 congress implemented that the ESEA establish help build up grants to help states create assistance for handicap students to achieve an education as well. -
Education of the Handicapped Act 1970
The ESEA was replaced by the Education of the Handicapped Act although neither one of the acts actually helped to show significant help with education of children with disabilities until two court cases in the 70's occurred. -
PARC and Mills
Between 1970-1972 there were two court cases that helped push the case for children with disabilities to have an equal shot at proper schooling they deserved. During investigation it was found that 4.25 million students with disabilities or handicaps were getting incorrect or no proper education. -
The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975
Finally after years of investigation congress passed a public law stating "that all children with disabilities would have a right to education,..". this was a major milestone in the growth for special needs education because it finally included children and students with special needs to receive the proper education they need to ensure their growth and development in the real world. -
The Warnock Report in 1978/1981 Education Act
This report changed the outlook of special needs education and brought awareness to the need for idea of creating special education. This Began the inclusive approach for children to receive proper education regardless of their disabilities or needs. -
Amy Rowley
Amy Rowley was placed in regular kindergarten class despite the fact that she was hearing impaired. Her parents fought for her to have in interpreter but was denied because she was passing her courses without one. The Rowley family decided to take the school district to New York's court. -

Individuals with Disaabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004
The purpose for reamending this act was to ensure that they followed the purposes for this act even being created. These two purposes included giving children proper education with unique needs to prepare them for their later life. along with protecting the rights of both the children with disabilities and their parents.
