  • Stonewall

    Stonewall
A series of protests by the LGBT+ community that took place in Manhattan at the Stonewall Inn. These riots were a cornerstone event for the gay liberation movement and are historically significant for the acts involving equality.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation Act and Section 504

This law prohibits federal funding to be discriminatory in any way. It also defined "appropriate education" which entails equal access to education for all students (504 plans).
  • Educational Amendments Act

This act gave students and their families the rights to due process in special education cases. This also grants federal funding for gifted and talented students. Federal funding is offered to states with exceptional learner programs.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act (1975)

Requires free and appropriate public education for all students. This also defined the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and Individualized Education Programs (IEP). The LRE states that children with disabilities should spend as much time as those students without disabilities. This applied to only children that were 5-18 years old.
  • "9 to 5" Movie Came Out

"9 to 5" Movie Came Out
The movie "9 to 5" starring my three favorite, famous leading ladies: Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin hit the big screen. This movie attacks the patriarchy (especially in the workplace) and is absolutely iconic!
  • Education of Handicapped Act Amendments

Free and appropriate education was extended to children of ages 3-5. There were early intervention programs were established for children from birth to age 2 that were diagnosed with disabilities. This was specifically aimed for children with developmental delays and children/toddlers with disabilities.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
This is one of the biggest shifts made as this act established bilingual education programs, due process in education, confidentiality in student information and the Transition Program at the age of 16. This also extends special education services to include social work and rehabilitation. The Transition Program is one designed for students wanting to join the work force directly out of school.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act

    Americans with Disabilities Act
This prohibited the discrimination of people with disabilities in the work force and established equal opportunity. This means that disabilities are met with accommodation, services, transportation and anything else that may be needed. The ADA programs made this illegal not just in the work force, but anywhere in America, including schools.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendment

The amended the act which established general education teachers to be a part of the IEP teams, students with disabilities were included in state testing, Behavior Management Plans were established and even students who were expelled from school received the services they were entitled to. Mediation between school and parents was established to resolve issues in their student's education.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
This included the establishment of Early Intervention Reading programs and increased accountability was placed on schools. School choice established minimum benchmarks for schools to reach to provide equal opportunity. This is a major complaint for this act because it places intense pressure on public schools that are not reaching these grades but, does not establish a support system/specific resources allocations to make differences,
  • IDEA Improvement Act (IDEIA)

    IDEA Improvement Act (IDEIA)
Higher standards for special education teacher license/certifications are now required. There is an increase in funding to early intervention service sand the use of response to intervention (RTI) with is all done with the goal to close learning gaps for special education students.
  • I Became an Aunt

My twin nieces were born! Also, my brother moved back to my hometown.
  • MasterChef Aired

    MasterChef Aired
This is one of my favorite competitions shows and one that I have watched since I was a kid. It is a cooking show in which amateur cooks come from across America to compete for a cash prize and three celebrity chefs are the judges.
  • My Best Friend!

    My Best Friend!
I met my best friend for the first time in my new school. We are still best friends to this day! :)
  • Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

    Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
This act gave more power to the when it comes to standardized testing and the consequences of low performance on these tests. Only 1 percent of students overall are allowed to be given alternative assessments. This also established bullying prevention programs.
