Brown Vs The Board of Eduction

May 17, 1954

This landmark case, while primarily a decision about segregating schools based on race, first establish the idea that separtate, by definition, is not equal when it come to schooling. This would be the president that all future special education legislation would be based on.

Rehabilitation Act

Sep 26, 1973

More specifically section 504 of the Rehabilition Act provides rights and accomidations to individuals with Physical disabilities.

The Education for All Handicapped Children Act ofv1975

Nov 19, 1975

Guaranteed a free public education to all students regardless of disability and setup due process so schools and agencies may be held accountable. Instituted IEPs and LRE.

Education of the Handicapped Amendment of 1983

Expanded the law in include ealry childhood education and transition to life after high school.

Education of th Handicapped ammendment of 1986

Established Part B and H which offer services to student of preschool age (3-5) and from birth to 5 repectively
